I N T R O D U C T I O N Several types o f melanot rop ic pept ides have been found in the pars in t e rmed ia o f lower ver tebra tes and m a m m a l s (Burgers , 1963; Preslock and Brinkley, 1970; Hopkins , 1972; Baker , 1973). T h e s e pept ides , including aand #-melanocy te s t imulat ing h o r m o n e (MSH), all contain a hep t apep t ide amino acid sequence, -Met -Glu-His -Phe-Arg-Trp-Gly, which appea r s to be the "active core" essential for melanot rop ic activity (i.e. to cause the expans ion o f melanocytes) (Eberle and Schwyzer, 1975). Adrenocor t i co t roph ic h o r m o n e (ACTH) and f l l ipotrophin (/3LPH) also are found in the pars in te rmedia , possess melanot rop ic activity, and contain this hep tapep t ide sequence. I ndeed , it has been p roposed that A C T H and ~ L P H are the p recursors o f orand /3-MSH, respectively, in the pars in te rmedia (Scott et al., 1973; Lowry and Scott, 1975; Bradbury et al., 1976). Biosynthesis, processing, and control of release of melanotropic peptides in the neurointermediate lobe of Xenopus laevis
The neurointermediate lobes of dark-adapted toads Xenopus laevis were incubated for 30 min in [3H]arginine and then "chased" for various time periods. By use of this pulse-chase paradigm there were detected 10 trichloroacetic acid (TCA)-precipitable peptides separated on acid-urea polyacrylamide gels and one TCA-soluble peptide separated by high-voltage electrophoresis (pH 4.9) with melanotropi...
متن کاملRegulation of MSH release from the neurointermediate lobe of Xenopus laevis by CRF-like peptides.
Immunocytochemical studies showed the presence of a fiber system containing a CRF-like peptide in the median eminence and in the neural lobe of the pituitary gland of Xenopus laevis. During in vitro superfusion of neurointermediate lobe tissue, CRF, sauvagine and urotensin I induced a rapid and dose-dependent stimulation of secretion of MSH and endorphin. Tissue of white-background adapted anim...
متن کاملAssessment of TRH as a potential MSH release stimulating factor in Xenopus laevis.
This study considers the possible involvement of the tripeptide TRH (thyrotropin releasing hormone) in the physiological regulation of melanophore stimulating hormone (MSH) secretion from the pars intermedia of the toad, Xenopus laevis. TRH was shown to stimulate release of MSH from superfused neurointermediate lobes obtained from white-background adapted animals, but had no effect on secretion...

Abstract The S362A mutation block ROMK2 (Kir1.1b) endocytosis in Xenopus laevis oocyte membrane . Saeed Hajihashemi1 , 1-Assistant professor, PhD in Physiology, Department of Physiology, School of Medical science, Arak University of Medical Sciences. Introduction: ROMK channel is localized on the apical membrane of the nephron. Recent studies suggest that endocytosis of ROMK chan...
متن کاملExpression of hsp90 Alpha and hsp90 Beta during Xenopus laevis Embryonic Development
Background: Members of the eukaryotic Hsp90 family function as important molecular chaperones in the assembly, folding and activation of cellular signaling in development. Two hsp90 genes, hsp90 alpha and hsp90 beta, have been identified in fish and homeothermic vertebrates but not in poikilothermic vertebrates. In the present study, the expression of hsp90 alpha and hsp90 beta genes in Xenopus...
